There are some new restaurants making themselves at home in Cedar Hill. Just over the past month, two new eateries have opened with fare ranging from burgers to soul food.

Let's see what's new.

Mudhook

A restaurant that started out in Duncanville in its Main Street area, relocated to Hillside Village. It officially opened on New Year's Eve, December 31.

It's owned by Bryan Kaeser, a local restaurateur. They serve burgers, soups and salads, wings, salmon and more. They also have a full bar of beer, wine and cocktails, and a coffee and espresso selection.

Beyond food, they're also incorporating some live entertainment, including live music Thursday and Saturday nights and their first poetry night of the year on January 31.

The Soul Shack

First opened in January with a soft opening on January 19, Soul Shack is a spot from Chicago making its Dallas debut in Cedar Hill.

According to their website, Soul Shack is a premier destination for soul food "serving authentic dishes like perfectly seasoned oxtails, mac 'n' cheese, collard greens, and fried green tomatoes- all made with love and the finest ingredients."

Looking at the menu, it's a blend of Southern American soul food and Caribbean dishes. Sides are separate, and entrees range from $20 for waffles and grits to $38 for lamb chops.

It's in a semi-hot, yet also troubled, spot for restaurants in the former Turkey Leg Hut space, which was previously a Wing Bucket and Matt's Rancho Martinez.
